Washington, DC, August 29, 2012 – The Aspen Institute and public television’s WORLD channel announced today that they have collaborated on the production of The Aspen Institute Presents, a series of 10 discussions selected from the 2012 Aspen Ideas Festival which was presented for the eighth consecutive year by the Aspen Institute and The Atlantic. The series marks the Aspen Institute’s first foray into television show production.

The Aspen Institute Presents, hosted by PBS NewsHour‘s Hari Sreenivasan, premieres on the WORLD Channel Tuesday, September 18, at 8 pm ET. The first episode, titled “Parenting in the 21st Century,” is led by Katie Couric with featured guest Anne-Marie Slaughter, the 2009-2011 director of policy planning under US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, professor of Politics and International Affairs at Princeton University, and author of the much discussed Atlantic article, “Why Women Still Can’t Have it All.”

Future episodes include some of the most inspired and provocative thinkers, writers, artists, business people, teachers, and other leaders representing a myriad of disciplines from across the country and around the world.

WORLD Channel General Manger Liz Cheng said, “We are delighted to have this opportunity to work with the Aspen Institute — one of the nation’s leading and longest-running organizations dedicated to in-depth discussions on important topics. From national security issues and the crisis in the economy to a future with more than seven billion people, the 2012 Aspen Ideas Festival offered rich content that will appeal to a wide and diverse audience.”

“We at the Aspen Institute believe that by bringing together leaders, problem solvers, and thinkers in a setting that values civil dialogue and deep reflection, change is possible,” said Institute President and CEO Walter Isaacson. “The Aspen Institute Presents television series will share these remarkable conversations and, we hope, inspire people to move from thought to action.”

Kitty Boone, Institute vice president and director of the Aspen Ideas Festival, adds, “Our intention has always been to bring the quality of these discussions to a broader audience. The fact that we are now in a position to work with the WORLD channel and air these distinctive and fresh conversations for a national audience is really, really exciting to us.”
