Presenting the 2nd Annual “New York Ideas” Forum in New York City on May 7, 2013
Bringing Together Top Business Innovators, Tech Entrepreneurs, Cultural Pioneers, and Urban Designers
Washington, D.C. and New York, N.Y. (April 30, 2013)—Google Earth. Massive open online courses. Political transparency. This is the world of top innovators: designing, building, illustrating, and governing for the future. On May 7, 2013, The Atlantic, the Aspen Institute, and the New-York Historical Society will gather the biggest game changers for conversations about thoughtful tech entrepreneurship, sustainable urban design, the brave new world of digital media, and more at the second annual “New York Ideas” forum in New York City.
As a preview to the day-long forum, CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell will interview Newark Mayor Cory Booker on May 6. Booker, who regularly uses Twitter to communicate directly with his constituents, has, according to TechCrunch, “redefined what it means to hold executive office in the age of social media.” During main-stage programming the following day, the program will feature Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), another politician attempting to change the way we think about public policy today.
Through one-on-one interviews and panel discussions, the program will feature innovators across a variety of sectors, including: Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman and former CEO of Google; Ted Leonsis, Co-CEO of Groupon; Sallie Krawcheck, former President of Bank of America’s Global Wealth and Investment Management Division; Randy Levine, President of the New York Yankees; chef Mario Batali; Richard Plepler, CEO of HBO; Gretchen Rubin, bestselling author of The Happiness Project; Jared Cohen, Founder and Director of Google Ideas; Anant Agarwal, President of edX; Rachel Haot, Chief Digital Officer of New York City; Pete Cashmore, Founder and CEO of Mashable; Lauren Bush Lauren, CEO, Creative Director, and Co-Founder of FEED Projects, and John Maeda, president of the Rhode Island School of Design. The day’s full agenda follows below.
Participating journalists include: Kurt Andersen, host of “Studio 360”; Ken Auletta, media critic at The New Yorker; Maria Bartiromo, host of CNBC’s Closing Bell; Willie Geist, co-anchor, The Today Show; and Richard Wolffe, Vice President and Executive Editor of MSNBC.com.
They will be joined by some of The Atlantic’s leading editorial voices, including: Steve Clemons, editor at large; Ta-Nehisi Coates, senior editor; Darhil Crooks, creative director; Jen Doll, senior writer at The Atlantic Wire; Megan Garber, staff writer; Gabriel Snyder, editor of The Atlantic Wire; and Derek Thompson, senior editor. The Aspen Institute’s Walter Isaacson, President and CEO, and Elliot Gerson, Executive Vice President of Policy and Public Programs, International Partners, will also be participating.
Please note that there is concurrent morning programming in two locations: the Smith stage and the Library stage. For those unable to attend in person at the New-York Historical Society, live-stream video of main-stage events will be covered online at http://events.theatlantic.com/new-york-ideas/2013/. You can also join the conversation on Twitter by following @Atlantic_LIVE, @AspenInstitute, and @NYHistory, #NYIdeas.
