Ingrid Irigoyen

Ingrid Irigoyen serves as the Associate Director, Ocean and Climate, for the Aspen Institute Energy and Environment Program (EEP). She leads EEP’s work on ocean and coastal sustainability and decarbonization of the ocean economy, and provides strategic advice and facilitation for partners striving to work collaboratively to address multi-sectoral ocean and coastal challenges. She is also Director of the Aspen Institute Shipping Decarbonization Initiative, a project that engages businesses and policy makers to accelerate decarbonization of maritime shipping. As part of this work, she is the facilitator and project lead for Cargo Owners for Zero Emission Vessels (coZEV), a coalition of major multinational consumer products companies and other freight buyers working to accelerate the pace of decarbonization in maritime shipping.

Prior to joining Aspen in 2018, she was a Senior Mediator and Program Manager at Meridian Institute, where she devoted 13 years to the design, management, and facilitation of collaborative efforts to solve environmental and sustainability problems, with a special focus on oceans and coasts.

Ingrid has experience developing coalitions and consensus building processes, strategy development to address intractable sustainability issues, and facilitation of high impact multi-stakeholder projects. These range in geographic scale from sub-national to international levels, and address topics such as maritime transport, ocean science and conservation, coastal and ocean adaptation to climate change, sustainable fisheries management, seafood markets, aquaculture, integrated regional ocean planning, offshore energy, and coastal resiliency and land management.

Prior to this, among other positions, Ingrid was a John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellow with the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. She holds a Masters of Environmental Management from the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from the University of New Hampshire. She lives in Bethesda, Maryland with her family. She speaks Spanish fluently.
