WTF (What’s The Future)?

September 27, 2017  • Aspen Ideas to Go

An increasing number of jobs are being performed by intelligent machines rather than humans, so what does that mean for our economic future? More than one-third of US jobs could be automated by the early 2030s, according to the Los Angeles Times. Rather than fear this changing landscape, Tim O’Reilly, founder and CEO of O’Reilly Media, says we should be harnessing technology to grow human-centered jobs.

O’Reilly is a leading intellectual in Silicon Valley. He has identified and explained emerging technologies, like the World Wide Web, Open Source Software, and Web 2.0. He has invested in companies such as Blogger, Foursquare, and Bitly.

In this episode, he speaks with Charles Duhigg, senior editor and columnist for The New York Times. Duhigg wrote the book The Power of Habit.

The two talk interact with the audience to discuss just how deeply artificial intelligence has affected their everyday lives. O’Reilly suggests how companies can adjust to our tech-driven future, and use intelligent machines to do things better.

The conversation centers around O’Reilly’s new book WTF?: What’s the Future and Why It’s Up to Us.
