Ta-Nehisi Coates: “Players Own the Game”

June 27, 2011  • Aspen Institute Staff

“My big idea is that players own the game.” Athletes demand much more respect from fans than they once did, says Ta-Nehisi Coates of The Atlantic. A less racist American audience, in recent decades, has led fans to see actions through the eyes of players, rather than the owners of professional sports franchises.

Coates presented his big idea, “players own the game,” at the opening session of the Aspen Ideas Festival in 2011.

His remarks were recorded on June 27, 2011.
