Throughout 2022, the Tech Accountability Coalition held conversations with over 100 tech leaders, experts, and community advocates. Their message was clear: the industry needs a shared set of standards to turn aspirational diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) commitments into transformative action - action that sparks the innovation needed for a better future. In response to that need, we developed the Equity Framework.

When it comes to digital infrastructure, communities lack more than just broadband access. Rather, the delivery of effective digital services at the local level has been hamstrung by three primary obstacles: an absence of data, poor community-government relationships, and insufficient digital literacy among key populations. At their core, these failures all have one thing in common: they designed for the community but not with the community.

Divided into discrete, bite-sized content, the Playbook makes it easier for companies to answer the question, “Where to begin?”

In 2021, Aspen Digital joined a diverse group of tech companies, researchers, and DEI experts in publishing the landmark ACT Report, which outlines a wide range of recommendations for improving the representation, inclusion, and empowerment of underserved and marginalized communities. As a next step to this work, the Aspen Institute is launching a new initiative to carry out the vision and recommendations of that report and translate them to measurable, collective action.
