World Channel Covers 2013 Aspen Ideas Festival

For the second year in a row, the World television network was live on the ground during the 2013 Aspen Ideas Festival, and produced a five-part news series on the event. Each episode features a daily update from the festival, along with interviews and conversations highlighting some of the most pressing issues of our time.

Hosted by PBS NewsHour’s Hari Sreenivasan and the BBC’s Jon Stewart, the show offers a comprehensive look into the myriad discussions that took place during the Festival. View all five episodes, including an overview of the 2012 Festival:

With an introduction from Aspen Institute President and CEO Walter Isaacson, this video features an overview of the best of the sessions from the 2012 Festival. Topics include discussions about corporate values, work-life balance, parenting, technology, the economy, national service, and the impact of concussions in football.

 

This episode explores the current state of politics as the country remains divided on issues including gun control, immigration, and national security. Festival speakers highlighted in this video include author Eric Liu on citizenship, former White House Senior Advisor Karl Rove on the Republican Party, and statistician Nate Silver and television host Katie Couric on the 2008 and 2012 elections.

 

The video above takes a look at the creation of jobs in conventional and creative ways in traditional and non-traditional industries. Highlighted speakers include Kickstarter founder Perry Chen in conversation with Isaacson, former US Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao, and Quartz editor-in-chief Kevin J. Delaney.

 

Sreenivasan dives into three Aspen Ideas Festival sessions spotlighting the ever-changing medium of television, featuring Twitter CEO Dick Costolo; Academy Award-winning screenwriter, director, and producer James L. Brooks; Aspen Institute Senior Fellow and former FFC Chairman Julius Genachowski; among others.

 

National security experts explore the nexus between privacy and safety, with speakers such as former US Navy Vice Admiral Mike McConnell, former US Rep. Jane Harman, Aspen Institute Executive Vice President Elliot Gerson, and others.
