Aspen, CO, March 4, 2010 –– The Aspen Writers’ Foundation (AWF), a program of the Aspen Institute, is pleased to announce the participation of two renowned novelists as a final nod to the diversity of the 2010 Winter Words season: Anita Shreve on March 8th, and Tobias Wolff on March 11th. The two events will be held at 5:30 pm at the Wheeler Opera House and the Given Institute respectively, and will feature a public reading and talk followed by a Q&A session and a book signing. Tickets are $15 for an individual and $10 for a student or teacher with a valid school ID. As a full-capacity audience is expected for these programs, early ticket purchasing is encouraged. Doors will open 30 minutes prior to the start of the event, and unclaimed tickets, if any, will be on sale at the door.
Anita Shreve | Monday, March 8 | Wheeler Opera House
Anita Shreve is the critically acclaimed and bestselling author of fifteen novels including, Eden Close, The Weight of Water, The Last Time They Met, and The Pilots’ Wife, an Oprah Book Club selection and international bestseller. Her latest novel, A Change in Altitude, was released in September 2009. In 1998, Shreve received the PEN/L. L. Winship Award and the New England Book Award for Fiction. One of her first short stories, Past the Island, Drifting, won the O. Henry prize. In April 2002, CBS aired the film version of The Pilot’s Wife, starring Christine Lahti, and in fall 2002, The Weight of Water, starring Elizabeth Hurley and Sean Penn, was released in movie theaters. Before launching her career as a novelist, Shreve spent three years working as a journalist in Nairobi, Kenya. Shreve has also contributed a number of pieces to dozens of publications such as The New York Times Magazine, New York magazine.
Tobias Wolff | Thursday, March 11 | The Given Institute
Justly celebrated as one of the most distinguished writers of our day, Tobias Wolff’s books include the memoirs This Boy’s Life and In Pharaoh’s Army: Memories of the Lost War; the novel Old School; the short novel The Barracks Thief; and four collections of short stories, In the Garden of the North American Martyrs, Back in the World, The Night in Question, and, most recently, Our Story Begins: New and Selected Stories. He has also edited several anthologies, among them Best American Short Stories 1994, and The Vintage Book of Contemporary American Short Stories. His work is translated widely and has received numerous awards, including the PEN/Faulkner Award, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, both the PEN/Malamud and the Rea Award for Excellence in the Short Story, the Story Prize, and the Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He is the Ward W. and Priscilla B. Woods Professor of English at Stanford.

The Aspen Writers’ Foundation, Colorado’s oldest nonprofit literary organization and a program of the Aspen Institute, has been bringing readers and writers together since 1976.
