In honor of the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and Gettysburg Address, Aspen Around Town, in conjunction with The Gettysburg Foundation, hosted an evening celebration at Lincoln’s Cottage commemorating President Abraham Lincoln and the profound legacy of these seminal texts on American history. The event, presented with the support of Institute Trustee Michelle Smith, featured toasts by Civil War historian James McPherson, philanthropist David Rubenstein, and presidential scholar Michael Beschloss.
The Aspen Around Town Series is a special offering of Aspen Institute public events held in and around the City of Washington, DC, jointly presented by prominent Washington-based cultural institutions. The events showcase dialogues focused on a broad range of topics featuring nationally recognized leaders and noted political and cultural experts. The Series is designed to provide these intellectually stimulating and topical conversations––a hallmark of the Aspen Institute––to the greater Washington community.
