Pulitzer prize-winning biographer, Tom Reiss, details the true story of the Count of Monte Cristo in his newest book, “The Black Count.” Reiss chronicles the life of military hero Alex Dumas, father of the acclaimed novelist Alexandre Dumas, and the inspiration behind his son’s books, “The Three Musketeers” and “The Count of Monte Cristo.” Tom will discuss the details of his research and the historical account of a man who remained the highest-ranking black military figure in a Western army for 200 years later.

Winter Words is a series of readings and talks featuring prominent contemporary writers. Acclaimed authors of fiction, nonfiction, poetry and memoir read from their work and discuss topics that range from the creative process to the role of art in today’s world.
