The Aspen Strategy Group (ASG) kicked off its 40th anniversary programming with an event celebrating ASG Founder and Co-Chair Joseph S. Nye, Jr. and his newly released memoir, A Life in the American Century. Watch the wide-ranging conversation between Professor Nye and Ambassador Robert Zoellick, featuring personal stories from “the American Century.”

The Aspen Strategy Group was formally created in 1984 by former Secretary of Defense Bill Perry, Brent Scowcroft, and Joseph S. Nye Jr. Its mission is to convene decision makers in resolutely non-partisan public and private forums to address key foreign policy challenges facing the United States. The ASG organizes its annual Summer Workshop, hosts Track II dialogues, and presents the annual Aspen Security Forum where domestic and foreign government officials, business executives, leading academics, and noted journalists convene for three and a half days to discuss solutions to the most pressing national security and foreign policy challenges of our time.

Joseph S. Nye Jr. is University Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus and former Dean of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. He has served as Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, Chair of the National Intelligence Council, and a Deputy Under Secretary of State. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the British Academy, and the American Academy of Diplomacy. In a recent survey of international relations scholars, he was rated the fifth most influential over the past 20 years; ranked as the most influential scholar on American foreign policy, and in 2011, Foreign Policy named him one of the top 100 Global Thinkers.
