CityLab 2018: Urban Solutions to Global Challenges

Since its founding in 2013, CityLab has become the global community’s summit on the most important urban issues of our time.

CityLab 2018 will be held in Detroit, a city whose dramatic story captures the industrial revolution, the golden age of the automobile, the beginning of a rising wave of broader technological progress that has yet to crest. In the same breath, Detroit is a city synonymous with financial collapse, and a city of persistent inequality. Today, Detroit’s inspiring quest for revival captures the imagination of many, and its narrative offers insights and inspiration to urban leaders in both post-industrial and developing cities across the world.

What can city leaders do to fuel innovation that improves quality of life for all? What can rising cities learn from the challenges faced by peers? At CityLab 2018, The Atlantic, The Aspen Institute and Bloomberg Philanthropies will convene the world’s city and community leaders to consider a new narrative worthy of the many global cities whose history may weigh heavy, but whose future holds the promise of a fresh page.
