About the Event

In conjunction with the current exhibition Sculpting the Environment, on view at the Resnick Center for Herbert Bayer Studies, this workshop will explore how the Bauhaus School’s paper-folding methods shaped Herbert Bayer’s sculptural practice and his masterpiece: the Aspen Meadows campus. Led by Koko Bayer – artist, co-curator of Sculpting the Environment and granddaughter to Herbert Bayer – the hands-on experience will introduce participants to Bauhaus paper-folding exercises and the groundbreaking ways they taught Bauhaus students about materials and primary forms. Herbert Bayer used this paper-folding practice to explore ideas for the rest of his life including on the buildings and sculptures for the Aspen campus. Participants will fold a hyperbolic parabola and explore cut paper techniques in an illuminating and inspiring experience suited for beginners and experienced artists.
