About the Fellowship

The Fellowship for Emerging Social Purpose Leaders at Aspen PSI ended in 2023. Browse our 10-year achieve below to learn about the fellowship’s history.

The purpose of the American Express Leadership Academy 2.0 at the Aspen Institute: Fellowship for Emerging Social Purpose Leader was to develop the next generation of nonprofit leaders. This values-based leadership development program strengthened the capacity of 15 accomplished nonprofit leaders annually. Using the Aspen Institute method of text-based dialogue, the fellowship offered participants a neutral forum in which to reflect on timeless human values, pursue common ground, and cultivate a richer understanding of the human condition. They then applied these insights to their work as nonprofit leaders.

Fellows were selected through a competitive process, with nominations submitted by American Express Leadership Academy partners and American Express grant recipients. The fellows represented a talented cohort of executive and management level nonprofit professionals and social entrepreneurs working in organizations that enrich communities and tackle pressing social issues. Participants hailed from diverse, global backgrounds, and shared a proven commitment to serving the public good.
