In 2002, President Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in international conflict resolution, human rights, and economic and social development. Both the former president and his wife are founders and trustees of The Carter Center, a non-profit organization in Atlanta, GA, dedicated to the alleviation of human suffering through programs focusing on peace and health.
