Sesame Street Brings Kindness Curriculum to Kids

150 Connecticut education leaders recently attended a Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence event, the first in a series aiming to make Connecticut “the first emotionally intelligent state.” Speakers, including one of our Distinguished Scientists Marc Brackett, led sessions that asked the educators to reflect on SEL success stories.

One of the Commission’s parent panelists, Scarlett Lewis, was recently profiled about her work to teach people to be more compassionate. After her son was killed in the Sandy Hook shooting, she founded the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Foundation, which provides schools with a free social and emotional learning curriculum.

Local Support for SEAD in AISD

Austin’s Independent School District, one of the pioneers in implementing SEAD district-wide, will receive $2 million from local donors as a reinvestment into its Social and Emotional Learning initiative. The Austin SEL initiative educates students on understanding and practicing the concepts of self-awareness, social awareness, interpersonal skills, and decision making.
