MARCH 1, 2022 – Current public resources are not equipped to adequately support citizens in all forms of crisis. 911 responders, for example, are not able to provide care for those experiencing mental health crises. At the same time, technology-enabled mass monitoring has exacerbated cases of domestic violence and stalking. How can governments ensure citizens get the proper resources and support they need? 

We need more people who understand the science and technology underpinning climate change at the table as big decisions are made. And we need diverse voices to highlight unexpected consequences of our decisions, so that groupthink does not lead us to ignore climate change’s effects on underserved communities. Until science and policy can talk to each other, we are unlikely to make adequate progress.

FEBRUARY 15, 2022 – Technology can be used to empower disenfranchised groups. When used thoughtfully, tech tools can help equalize opportunity, compensation, and access to resources across organizations. How can tech be used to even the playing field for workers in corporate hierarchies and voters with limited resources? Three Aspen Tech Policy Hub Fellows showcase their projects focused on “Empowering Marginalized Workers and Voters.”

FEBRUARY 1, 2022 – Four Aspen Tech Policy Hub Fellows presented their innovative policy ideas for improving healthcare and health data privacy. Following the presentations of the projects, Aneesh Chopra, Co-Founder of CareJourney and former United States Chief Technology Officer, gave further remarks.

Americans are living 21st century lives using 20th century infrastructure. Now is the time to get prepared for the next crisis as well as for the economic and technological changes ahead. Stakeholders have the insights and resources to address these challenges: we must work across sectors and silos, integrate equity and climate into every decision, embrace community input and data, pursue innovative financing mechanisms, and ground infrastructure in the dynamic needs of our citizens. Congress has green-lit the path ahead. Now it’s time to get creative and work together in this historic moment.

JANUARY 20, 2022 – One year after the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, 92Y’s second annual State of Democracy Summit—co-presented with Aspen Digital—explored the most important questions facing the country right now, with a special focus on technology’s impact on democracy and new approaches to civic engagement, journalism, politics and policy.

Loneliness is an innate condition. It is a shared emotion that all people experience to some degree. Sometimes paired with feelings of anxiety, fear, depression, and shame, loneliness signals the need for human connection. While most studies reporting on the topic prioritize industrialized nations, Loneliness in India offers insights into the similarities and differences driving feelings of loneliness in an emerging and developing country.

JANUARY 13, 2022 – America is in a crisis of trust and truth. Members of the Aspen Institute’s Commission on Information Disorder participate in a live, virtual conversation on ways to address the country’s mis- and disinformation challenges.

Our culture’s dependency on technology to work, eat, learn, govern, be entertained, and stay in touch underscores that digitally mediated experiences already profoundly shape our understanding of what it means to be human. To explore this deeply, Aspen Digital, with support from Pivotal Ventures, sought to reimagine how technology can shape the human experience and our sense of place.
