“Getting the Best Education for All Our Kids: The Lawsuits That Could Transform American Public ” is hosted by the Aspen Institute Justice and Society Program. Barriers to excellent public education through teacher tenure provisions, spending caps, and other state constitutional, legislative and regulatory provisions are being challenged in lawsuits from coast to coast. Teachers’ unions and advocates for better schools, former allies, find themselves at odds. Do teachers need to lose for kids to win? Can we achieve racial equity, inclusion, and better educational outcomes by giving communities more voice? What are the First Amendment concerns? Would changes in housing patterns help, and how might we best encourage them?
