Adam Pendleton is a leading figure in contemporary art. Working primarily as a painter, his work has redefined the boundaries of abstraction through a sustained engagement with process, language, and conceptual form. His work has been featured in solo exhibitions at leading museums and galleries around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
Beyond his artistic practice, Pendleton has spearheaded efforts to preserve and protect Nina Simone’s childhood home, helping secure its designation as a National Treasure by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 2018. He was twice named to Forbes 30 Under 30 and received the Rosenthal Family Foundation Award for Painting from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2024. He serves on multiple boards, including those of the Dia Art Foundation and The Drawing Center in New York.
His work is held in major public collections worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York; the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York; the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York; Tate in London; and the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, among many others. He is a Fellow of the inaugural cohort of the Michael D. Eisner Arts & Culture Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
