Gina Raimondo is a nationally recognized leader in economic development, public service, and innovation. She served as the 40th U.S. Secretary of Commerce, where she played a central role in strengthening American manufacturing, rebuilding supply chains, and advancing investments in technology, infrastructure, and workforce development. During her tenure, she helped implement landmark initiatives to expand broadband access, revitalize domestic semiconductor production, and support small businesses across the country.
Prior to serving in the Biden Administration, Raimondo was the Governor of Rhode Island from 2015 to 2021. As governor, she focused on creating jobs, improving education and workforce training, and making government more effective and accountable. Under her leadership, Rhode Island experienced record job growth, major investments in infrastructure, and expanded access to affordable higher education and job training programs.
Earlier in her career, Raimondo served as Rhode Island’s General Treasurer, where she was recognized for restoring the state’s pension system to long-term sustainability while protecting retirees and taxpayers. Before entering public service, she worked in venture capital and founded a small business, bringing a private-sector perspective to her approach to economic policy. Raimondo earned a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, a master’s degree from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, and a law degree from Yale Law School. Known for her pragmatic, results-driven leadership style, she continues to be a prominent voice on issues of economic competitiveness, innovation, and inclusive growth in the United States.
