Ruirong (Ray) Yang is a Partner at Marathon Venture Partners (MVP), focusing on early to growth investment opportunities in AI and digital health. Prior to MVP, Mr. Yang was a Managing Director at Northern Light Venture Capital, where he led the firm’s investments in Healthcare. He started his venture capital career with Orchid Asia in 2004, where he helped establish the firm’s China operations and served as an Investment Director. Prior to his venture capital career, he worked as a Commodities Trader for Louis Dreyfus Corporation, participating in the trading and analysis of the agricultural commodities. Prior to Harvard, Mr. Yang spent seven years in various Chinese government positions including China’s Ministry of Commerce, where he oversaw operations of the Economic & Commercial offices of China across the world, and the Chinese Consulate General in Houston, where he served as a Vice Commercial Consul promoting trade and investment between China and the southern region of the United States. 

During Mr. Yang’s investment career, he funded many industry leaders in the technology and healthcare sectors from early on, including companies such as:  Thundersoft (ChiNext: 300469), Credible (acquired by Fox), BGI (Chinext: 300676),  iRay Technology (688301.SH), Shukun Technology, Meditrust, Soonsolid, DaoCloud, HeartMed, Alsolife, Mingdu Tech and etc.

Mr. Yang served on the Harvard Business School Alumni Board (2016-2018). He is a Fellow of Aspen Institute China Fellowship Program and a member of Aspen Global Leadership Network. He is a member of China Healthcare Investment Forum 50 (H50) and served as co-Chair in 2021. Mr. Yang serves as the Vice Chair of the Digital Health Committee under China Medical Education Association. He is an Advisory Committee Member of Institute of Digital Medscine at City University of Hong Kong.


Mr. Yang holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade and an M.B.A from Harvard Business School.
