Micro and Small Business Job Quality

BOI’s research has helped to document the strong role that microenterprise development organizations play in helping businesses that support and create new jobs.

In today’s changing economy, it has become clear that improving job quality is as great a challenge as creating new jobs. BOI is working in collaboration with its colleagues in the Aspen Institute Economic Opportunities Program to learn more about job quality within micro and small businesses and how organizations that support them—including lenders, investors, and workforce developers—can help to raise job quality. BOI conducted an in-depth, qualitative study in 2014 and 2015—titled Microbusinesses, Gainful Jobs—that examined job quality in microbusinesses financed by Accion.
