Sonia Sotomayor – 2016 Preston Robert Tisch Award in Civic Leadership

On December 9, 2016, the 7th Annual Preston Robert Tisch Award in Civic Leadership was presented to Sonia Sotomayor, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The program was moderated by Walter Isaacson.

Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor was born in Bronx, New York. She earned a B.A. from Princeton University in 1976 and a J.D. from Yale Law School in 1979, where she served as an editor of the Yale Law Journal. She has served as Assistant District Attorney in the New York County District Attorney’s Office and as a litigator in international commercial matters in New York City at Pavia & Harcourt. In 1991 President George H.W. Bush nominated her to the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York. She has also served as a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. In May 2009 President Barack Obama nominated her as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, a role she assumed on August 8, 2009.
