Live from the Symposium on the State of Race in America

April 8, 2014

As race continues to be a part of the larger conversation about the changing US society, the Aspen Institute Communications and Society Program, in association with the Comcast Corporation, hosted its annual Symposium on the State of Race in America at the Newseum in Washington, DC. The Symposium explored the issues and opportunities for people of color with a particular focus on the role of race and racism in the United States. This year’s panelists include Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, Al Jazeera America’s Ray Suarez, author Tanner Colby, and other notable panelists.

As part of the event, the Aspen Institute welcomed several social media ambassadors to participate by tweeting their opinions about the conversations on stage using the hashtag #stateofrace. Below is a glimpse of those on-and-off-stage conversations — some from the ambassadors and others from the Twittersphere at large — during the event.
