Dylan Barry is the Executive Director of the “von Neumann Commission,” an independent research commission that is investigating the prospects of quantum computing to act as an accelerator for machine learning and artificial intelligence. He is collaborating with the Aspen Institute Science & Society Program on key elements of this research commission.
Between 2020 and 2022, Dylan was an analyst at the Global Commission for Post-Pandemic Policy, where he worked with commissioners including Nobel laureates Steven Chu, Daniel Kahneman, and Michael Spence (among other notable figures). Between 2021 and 2023, Dylan then consulted for the G7-led Global Partnership Against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction, designing and costing pathogen surveillance systems.
From 2023, Dylan has worked as editorial consultant for Quantonation Ventures, the largest venture capital fund in the world dedicated to quantum technologies, where he writes Quantonation’s white papers on trends in the quantum industry. Dylan’s most recent such white paper was edited by Nobel laureate Alain Aspect. From 2020, Dylan has worked as a science writer with The Economist, where he writes on emerging trends across physics, artificial intelligence and neuroscience.
Dylan has three degrees in physics and economics. Most recently, he graduated with an MPhil in Economics from the University of Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship.
