Matthew Anestis is the co-founder of The Remix Years, a startup guiding proven builders in finance, technology, and other fields through their next chapter. He co-teaches “American Business: A History” at Columbia University and serves on the Board of Visitors for Columbia’s Center for American Studies. Matt is also the incoming chairman of Sandbox Group’s nonprofit dedicated to advancing financial literacy. Previously, Matt worked as a managing director at BlackRock for more than 15 years, where he oversaw all of BlackRock’s private market risk management, investment process, and sustainability across a business managing over $320 billion in private market assets with a team of over 1,000 professionals. He also served as the global head of BlackRock Platform Innovation, chief of staff to the president and COO, head of BlackRock’s Boston office, the first COO of BlackRock Private Markets, and COO of BlackRock’s Aladdin Product Group. Earlier, Matt was a partner and managing director with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in Hong Kong and also worked in BCG’s Boston and Toronto offices. He also worked with Microsoft and in the White House. Matt earned an undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, in economics from Harvard, an MBA, with high distinction, from Harvard Business School (Baker Scholar), and a JD, magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School. He was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2006. He is dedicated to educational and financial literacy causes and lives in New York City. Matt is a Fellow of the ninth class of the Finance Leaders Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
