Micki M. Chen | Micki M. Chen, Vice President, Associate General Counsel-Network and Technology, Verizon, Arlington, VA. Micki Chen has served as lead attorney for Verizon Long Distance since July 2000, and previously counseled Verizon's business units that sell to small businesses and the Federal government. From 1993 to 1996, she was Senior Assistant General Counsel and Special Counsel to the General Counsel for the U.S. General Services Administration. During her tenure with the government she earned the Vice President's "Hammer Award" and the "Commendable Service Award". Early in her legal career Micki worked as a litigation associate for Morrison and Foerster and as a Federal district court clerk to Judge Royce C. Lamberth in Washington, D.C. Prior to entering Harvard Law School she spent one year working at Drexel Burnham Lambert. Micki is a board member for the Medicare Rights Center. Gary B. Cohen | Gary B. Cohen, Managing Partner, CO2 Partners LLC, Minneapolis, MN. In 1987, Gary and his partner, Rick Diamond, founded ACI Telecentrics with only $2,000 each. From that humble beginning they successfully grew the company from 2 to 2,200 employees in 11 locations and became the 25th largest teleservices company in the country with $30 million+ in business. Gary left his post as President of ACI in January 2005 to start CO2 Partners, an executive coaching firm. Gary previously worked in state government as an intern for Senator Jim Ramstad, and is active in other business and community interests, having served as a Director for the Minnesota Zoo Foundation Board and the Alzheimer's Association of Minnesota. He has served on the boards for the American Teleservices Association and the Richfield Bank & Trust. He currently serves on the boards of Outward Bound National and IC System, Inc. and is a member of the American-Israeli Policy Advisory Committee. Gary has received the CitiBusiness "40 Under 40" award and was a finalist for the Ernst & Young "Entrepreneur of the Year" Award. Arne Duncan | Arne Duncan, Secretary of Education, U.S. Department of Education, Washington DC. Arne was appointed Secretary of Education by President Barack Obama in 2009. Previously from 2001-2008, Arne served as Chief Executive Officer of the Chicago Public Schools where he was Deputy Chief of Staff for the CEO. In 1992, he returned to Chicago (after graduating from Harvard) to direct the Ariel Education Initiative, which creates outstanding educational opportunities for inner-city children on Chicago's South Side. In 1998 he joined Chicago Public Schools. Rosemary Jordano founded and ran ChildrenFirst, Inc., one of the nation's first and largest network of backup child-care centers from its inception in 1992 until 2004, when she stepped down from her position as CEO and Chairman. During her tenure, ChildrenFirst, Inc. grew to serve more than 250 corporate clients in ten top metropolitan markets across the U.S. and Canada. In addition, Roe participated in the Presidential Summit for America's Future and the White House Conference on Child Care and her company was included in the Secretary of Labor's "Working Women Count" Honor Roll. James P. McCarter | James P. McCarter, M.D., Ph.D., Divergence Site Lead, Monsanto Company, St. Louis, MO. Jim McCarter is an expert in the application of genomics to parasitic disease, and has led both industry and academic initiatives to reduce diseases of humans, animals, and plants caused by nematode worms. He founded Divergence in 1998 to apply new genomics technology to the discovery of effective, safe, and ecologically sound strategies for parasite control. Jim was president, chief scientific officer, and chairman of Divergence until it was acquired by Monsanto Company in 2011. He is currently serving as site lead for Monsanto's Divergence site. Jim is also an Instructor in Genetics at Washington University School of Medicine's Genome Center (GC) in St. Louis, continuing work he initiated in 1998 as the Merck Fellow of the Helen Hay Whitney Foundation. At the GC, Jim led the world's largest effort devoted to the sequencing of genes from parasitic nematodes, generating over a half-million gene sequences from 32 species with funding from the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. He is a co-author of over 50 scientific papers and reviews. Jim completed his medical and doctoral training at Washington University, receiving the Victor Hamburger Prize in developmental biology. While a medical student, he founded the Young Scientist Program, a collaboration between the University and the St. Louis City Public Schools for the improvement of science education in disadvantaged communities. In 1989, he graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University receiving the Cannon Award in biology. Jim is the recipient of the 2003 Innovation Award from the Academy of Science of St. Louis and on behalf of Divergence Inc., accepted the 2004 Danforth Plant Science Center Distinguished Service Award. Joshua Cooper Ramo | Joshua Ramo, Vice Chairman, Kissinger Associates, Washington, DC. Joshua Ramo joined Kissinger Associates as a Managing Director in 2006, becoming the youngest partner in the history of the firm. He was promoted to Vice Chairman in November 2011. In this role, he advises some of the largest corporations in the world and governments at the ministerial level and above. He previously worked for the John Thornton Group at Goldman Sachs handling the advisory and banking business with a particular focus on China. Prior to that, he was at TIME Magazine, starting as the youngest-ever Senior Editor and later as Foreign Editor and Assistant Managing Editor. Joanna has served on the board of more than 25 venture-backed start-up companies across a broad range of industries. She is currently serving as Assistant Administrator for the Middle East Bureau at the US Agency for International Development. Prior to USAID, Mara Rudman was a deputy envoy and chief of staff for the Office of the Special Envoy for Middle East Peace. She served as Deputy Assistant to the President and Executive Secretary to the National Security Council under President Obama from January through May 2009. From 2005-2009, she was the President of Quorum Strategies, LLC, an international strategic consulting firm, and a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress, where she focused on national security issues and advised Middle East Progress. Aamir M. Sheikh | Aamir M. Sheikh, Ph.D., Former President, Barra, Inc., Berkeley, CA. Aamir Sheikh was instrumental in the development and leadership of Barra's enterprise risk management business, prior to the company's take-over by Morgan Stanley in June 2004. Under his leadership, Barra successfully integrated the acquisition of Redpoint Software and launched the first firm-wide risk management solution for the investment management community. In addition, Aamir has provided significant leadership to Barra's research practice since he joined the company in June 1994. His research initiatives include Barra's equity and derivatives risk models. Prior to joining Barra, Aamir was a Professor of Finance at Indiana University. Kimberly C. Smith | Kim Smith, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Bellwether Education Partners, San Francisco, CA. Bernard Sucher | Bernard Sucher, Board Member, Aton Group, Moscow, Russia. Bernie is currently a Board Member of the Aton Group which oversees companies including Aton Capital, one of the largest investment banks in Russia. From February 2007 to July 2010, Bernie served as the managing director and head of Global Markets for Merrill Lynch in Russia. In this role, he had responsibility for building out the firm's local Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities as well as Equity sales and trading operations. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, Bernie was chairman of Alfa Capital. In 2000, he and his business partner were honored by the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia as "Businessmen of the Year" for "significant contributions to business in Russia and commitment to the highest standards of business ethics." Trained as a retail broker by EF Hutton in the early 1980's, Bernie became an institutional broker and sales manager for Cresvale, a British dealer, and later took on similar responsibilities for Goldman Sachs. He has worked in New York, London, Hong Kong and Tokyo. Bernie has also enjoyed success as an entrepreneur and investor in a number of new businesses in Russia, including restaurant and club ventures and a specialty publishing company. He is also a partner in Jacobs Asset Management, a New York-based small-capital hedge fund. Bernie is a Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia and a member of the working group on Bush-Putin Russian-American Business Dialogue. He also serves as a member of the U.S. Russia Business Council and an advisor to the Center for Citizens Initiatives. Bernie holds a BA from the University of Michigan. He is a member of the 2002 class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute. |
Matthew J. Wisk | Matthew J. Wisk, President, MyPoints, San Francisco, CA. Matt Wisk is the President of MyPoints in San Francisco, CA. Previously he had been the EVP and CMO of United Online, a leading provider of consumer internet subscription services since in August 2005. Before joining United Online, he was senior vice president and chief marketing officer at TiVo where he directed TiVo's global marketing efforts. Matt was previously chief marketing officer at Herbalife International, and prior to that he worked at Nokia for nine years, where he moved up through the marketing organization to become vice president, marketing, North and South America. At Nokia, Matt was a key executive in the marketing team that helped establish Nokia as a global leader in wireless communications equipment. Prior to Nokia, Matt held marketing positions for wireless companies, Metrocel Cellular Telephone (now part of AT&T Wireless), NEC, and GTE. In October 2000, Matt took top honors as BRANDWEEK's "Grand Marketer of the Year" at the Association of National Advertisers' 2000 Annual Conference. He received both his MBA and BA from Michigan State University. He is a member of the 2002 class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute. |
