“Onward and Upward”

As founding executive director and one of the architects of the Henry Crown Fellowship, Keith didn’t just select a cohort and help launch the Fellowship. He designed a way of thinking together. From 1997 to 2006, he personally moderated and selected the first 10 classes of Fellows, then went on to serve as a senior moderator across the Aspen Global Leadership Network for years beyond that. He also joined the HCF Board of Overseers, stewarding the future of the Fellowship he helped bring to life.

As one of the architects behind the two-year curriculum that still defines the HCF experience: Keith forged the way with seminars built on self-reflection, ethical leadership, and honest dialogue on the hardest questions and issues of our time. Under his leadership, Fellows learned to sit with discomfort, challenge each other with curiosity instead of certainty, and stay in the conversation even when it got hard. That’s the muscle he built in generation after generation of leaders, and it’s why the Fellowship is known for producing people who bridge divides instead of deepening them.

The Keith Berwick Memorial Grove

Thanks to the generosity of the first 10 classes of the Henry Crown Fellowship (1997-2006), a grove near the Buckminster Fuller Dome on the Aspen Meadows campus now bears Keith’s name. It’s a place for peace and reflection, sitting quietly in the landscape he loved, for any Fellow who wants to sit a while and remember where this all started.
