Aspen is a place for leaders to lift their sights above the possessions which possess them. To confront their own nature as human beings, to regain control over their own humanity by becoming more self-aware, more self-correcting, and hence more self-fulfilling.
The Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD), located in Cleveland, Ohio, serves approximately 34,000 students across 65 schools. Nearly all CMSD students qualify for free or reduced-price meals, and approximately 13% are English Learners. Our students bring tremendous strengths, resilience, and potential, and our work is grounded in ensuring that every student has access to the opportunities and supports needed to thrive.

These values are reflected in our strategic plan, which is centered on creating equitable pathways to success by ensuring every student graduates prepared for college, career, and life. A key priority is expanding access to rigorous, high-quality college and career readiness experiences—including advanced coursework, career pathways, and early college opportunities—so that all students can pursue their aspirations regardless of background or circumstance.
CMSD is joining the Social Mobility Leadership Network because we recognize that expanding opportunity requires both strong internal systems and collaboration with partners who share our commitment to educational excellence and equity. We are eager to learn from and contribute to a network of districts working to remove barriers, strengthen college and career pathways, and improve long-term outcomes for students. Participation in this network will help us sharpen our strategies, accelerate implementation, and strengthen our accountability for delivering the opportunities and results our students deserve.
