About the District

Located in Atlanta, Georgia, Atlanta Public Schools serves nearly 50,000 students across 87 schools. More than half of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and our school communities reflect the rich cultural and linguistic diversity of a growing global city.

Our mission is to educate and empower our students to shape the future, and our vision for getting there is to galvanize a community of believers as we get back to basics. Guided by our strategic plan, Back to the Basics 2030, we are strengthening rigorous instruction, expanding equitable access to advanced coursework, and investing in the well-being of every student, in every classroom, in every school.

We are joining the Social Mobility Leadership Network because closing the gap in advanced coursework access demands more than good intentions; it demands shared accountability. We want to learn from districts confronting the same structural barriers, contribute the lessons of our own strategic plan, and hold ourselves to the outcomes our students have earned the right to expect.
