About the District

Located in Chicago, Illinois, Chicago Public Schools serves approximately 314,000 students across 630 schools. More than 70% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and over 110 languages are spoken at home.

Our mission is to provide a high-quality public education for every child, in every neighborhood, that prepares each for success in college, career and civic life. The strategic vision of Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is guided by its “Together We Rise” Five-Year Strategic Plan. The core framework of this vision ensures a “rigorous, joyful, and equitable learning experience for every student, in every school, in every community.

We set an ambitious goal for all CPS for students, especially those from historically underrepresented groups to earn college credit and advanced career credentials while in high school so that they are prepared for sustained success in college and their chosen career pathway.

CPS is joining the Social Mobility Leadership Network because we know that the work of expanding postsecondary success requires both improved access and intentional systems for student success.
