Aspen is a place for leaders to lift their sights above the possessions which possess them. To confront their own nature as human beings, to regain control over their own humanity by becoming more self-aware, more self-correcting, and hence more self-fulfilling.
Located in New York City, the Manhattan High Schools District serves 30,753 students across 50 diverse public high schools. Our students reflect the diversity of the city, with 19,464 students economically disadvantaged, 5,064 students with IEPs, 2,465 English Language Learners, and 3,337 students living in temporary housing.
Our vision is to empower safe, nurturing, inclusive, student-centered communities that diminish disproportionalities, elevate student voice, and prepare every student for college, career, and active civic engagement. Grounded in equity, partnership, and responsiveness, our mission is to ensure each student graduates on a pathway to a rewarding career and long-term economic security. Expanding equitable access to high-quality advanced coursework is central to this commitment. Manhattan High Schools is increasing Advanced Placement opportunities across schools, broadening access to Dual Enrollment courses and college credit, and examining participation and outcomes to ensure historically underserved students benefit from these pathways.
Through the Social Mobility Leadership Network, we look forward to learning alongside districts nationwide while contributing our experiences expanding advanced coursework across a large, diverse urban district. Together, we seek to identify, scale, and share practices that remove barriers, expand opportunity, and strengthen social and economic mobility for every student.
