Nashville Public Schools has made historic gains across all academic and non-academic accountability metrics, including a fourth consecutive year of Level 5 TVAAS growth, the state’s highest rating for academic growth. Through NashvillePeer, our research partnership with Vanderbilt University, we’ve focused on closing participation, completion, and success gaps in advanced academics. Access has climbed from roughly 40% to more than 90% of high school students over the past decade, and our focus has shifted to closing the success gaps that remain.
This shift mirrors a change in Tennessee’s accountability system, which now measures success in advanced coursework rather than access alone, making this a timely and exciting moment for us to join the Social Mobility Leadership Network as we work to connect every student to college, career, and long-term social mobility.
