Aspen is a place for leaders to lift their sights above the possessions which possess them. To confront their own nature as human beings, to regain control over their own humanity by becoming more self-aware, more self-correcting, and hence more self-fulfilling.
The Aspen Institute State Benefits Leadership Cohort
The Aspen Institute State Benefits Leadership Cohort is a solution-oriented community of practice and peer network of state executives responsible for administering public benefits and committed to improving public benefit access and delivery.
Convened by the Aspen Institute Financial Security Program, the Cohort meets virtually and in person to strengthen values-based leadership approaches and to workshop emerging innovative benefit delivery practices.
What We Do
As a peer network, the Cohort provides members with in-depth opportunities to workshop solutions that are responsive to the challenges facing the public benefits system today and that help set north stars for the field of public benefits delivery.
Facilitating Peer Learning
We foster a confidential space where leaders can workshop solutions to the challenges they face, helping them to implement innovations that improve public benefits delivery.
Building Connections
Through formal and informal networking, we connect Cohort members to partners that can help states scale successful programs and administrative processes, and modernize benefits delivery technology.
Supporting Leaders
The Cohort provides state leaders with an opportunity to step away from the day to day and reflect on their goals and values as leaders.
“The relationships and connections to the other state leaders … are extraordinarily helpful. It’s a gift to have a safe space for personal and professional reflection together and to have time to strategize about how we can support each other’s work.”
State Benefits Leadership Cohort Members
Our members hold leadership positions in a diverse set of states across the U.S.
